I have gathered significant laws passed that have serious impacts to our status and non-status members.
The most recent is the Gender Equity in Indian Registration Act (Bill C-3) Comes Into Force on January 31, 2011.
The McIvor decision now grants membership to eligible grandchildren (see Odanak Citizen Code) of women who list status during pre 1985. Please read below to know your rights as a citizen of the Abenaki Nation/First Nation.
